People ask this question a lot now a day, wondering where we are all going and who is responsible. I hate to think it but I feel that a lot of the things we burden ourselves with are of our own making. Take Halloween for example. This year we had just one trick-or-treater. It wasn’t as if our home looked uninviting, but that parents have become too scared to let their children go out and collect candy; if only it were the cavities these parents were afraid of. In the 90’s there were people saying that razor blades were being secretly placed in apples then passed out to the eager trick-or-treaters; however there is not one actual verifiable report that anything of this nature ever happened, it was just a story created to fool the ignorant followers of urban legends. Interestingly enough the story of the razorblade apple goes back to the 60’s. Common sense of parents had their children throwing away all fruit or homemade candy when I was little and only keeping the treats that were safely packaged all because of the fears of a story that wasn’t even true.
I want to know why we are subjecting ourselves to this silly behavior? It is not the bad people of the world that seem to be making the world a worse place but the people afraid of the invisible badness. What used to be a fun holiday for kids isn’t anymore. Where do you draw the line? It is just sad when people are so ignorantly afraid of the unknown that they paint in their minds horrifying dramatic situations. It’s gotten to the point that people rumor the stickers on the backs of cars (the ones of stick figure families) will lure a child predator to your home; it is rumored that posting a picture of any child on a blog will get them abducted; it is rumored, rumored, rumored. The diminishing of Halloween was started as a rumor. So where is the world going? Obviously, only downward. As people continue to shun their neighbors and not get to know them; as people continue to create fabrications of the possibility; as people grow more numb to the lie harboring as a truth we are going downward, making the world a safer place.
So this is a blog and I guess that is what blogs are for, to tell everyone what you think about something. Obviously they are not about sharing with others the fun and happy things in life, only the bad. What a wonderful world.
Cheers

What it boils down to is what are we teaching our children. Sure it is important to teach them all the safety issues and what to do if something happens. But it is all in the manner in how we do it. We can do it in a why that help them become a strong individual or we can scare them. In the end, we teach more by example then anything. If we do things out of fear so will they. And do we really want them to live life in fear.
Amen! Mikey can I have your permission to copy this on my blog?
Erin you are totally welcome to it.
